Create a Project and Assign a Project Owner in the TruckIT Portal (walkthrough)

Learn how to create a new project, add a project name, assign a project owner, and save the project in the TruckIT Web Portal.

Use this article to create a new project in the TruckIT Web Portal.

Projects help organize your sites, payloads, dispatches, tickets, and job activity in TruckIT. Before your team can add payloads or dispatch work, the project should be created and saved in the portal.

Before you begin

Make sure you are logged in to the TruckIT Web Portal.

You may need permission to create or manage projects. If you do not see Projects and Sites or Create New Project, contact your company administrator or TruckIT Support.

Before creating the project, confirm:

  • Project name
  • Project owner
  • Any internal project naming standards your team uses
  • Whether the project owner already exists in TruckIT

 Create a new project

1. Log in to the TruckIT Web Portal.

2. Go to Projects and Sites.

3. Click Create New Project.

4. Click the Project Name field.

5. Enter the project name.

*Use a clear project name your team will recognize. If your company uses a standard naming format, follow that format.

6. Select or enter the Project Owner.

7. Review the project details.

8. Click Save.

The new project will now be added to TruckIT.

Choose a clear project name

Project names should be easy for dispatchers, admins, and field teams to identify.

A good project name should be:

  • Clear
  • Specific
  • Consistent
  • Easy to search
  • Recognizable to your team

For example, instead of using a vague name like Main Street, use a more specific name such as Main Street Resurfacing - Phase 1 if that matches your company’s naming process.

Assign the project owner

The project owner helps your team understand who is responsible for the project.

When selecting a project owner, choose the person or company that should be associated with the project for coordination, visibility, or internal tracking.

Before saving, confirm that the selected project owner is correct.

What happens next?

After the project is created, you can continue setting up the project workflow.

Common next steps include:

  • Add pickup and drop-off sites
  • Add a payload to the project
  • Dispatch a job
  • Assign trucks or haulers
  • Monitor job activity
  • Review tickets connected to the project
