Dispatch a Job with a Specific Truck Type in the TruckIT Portal

Learn how to create a payload with a specific truck type so only matching trucks appear during dispatch.

Use this article to dispatch a job using a specific truck type in the TruckIT Web Portal.

When you add a specific truck type to a payload, TruckIT filters the trucks shown during dispatch. This helps dispatchers assign the right equipment to the job and avoid selecting trucks that do not match the payload requirements.

For example, if a payload requires a specific truck type, My Fleet will only show trucks that match that truck type when the job is dispatched.

Before you begin

Make sure you are logged in to the TruckIT Web Portal.

You may need permission to create payloads and dispatch jobs. If you do not see Projects and Sites, Add Payload, Truck Types, Dispatch, or Save Job, contact your company administrator or TruckIT Support.

Before dispatching with a specific truck type, confirm:

  • The correct project
  • The material or payload details
  • The truck type required for the job
  • The pickup and drop-off sites
  • The available trucks in your fleet
  • Any job notes or driver instructions

Add a payload with a specific truck type

1. Go to Projects and Sites

2. Select the project you want to update.

3. Click Add Payload.

4.  Click Truck Types

5.  Select the truck type(s) required for the payload.

6. Complete the remaining payload details.

7. Click Save.

The payload is now saved with the selected truck type

Dispatch the payload

After the payload is saved, you can dispatch it.

1. Find the payload you created.

2. Click Dispatch.

3. Go to My Fleet.

4. Review the available trucks. (Only trucks that match the truck type selected on the payload will appear in My Fleet.)

5. Select the truck you want to assign.

6. Review the dispatch details.

7. Click Save Job.
The job is now dispatched with the selected truck type.

Why truck type matters during dispatch

Truck types help make sure the correct equipment is assigned to the job.

Using truck types can help your team:

  • Reduce dispatching mistakes
  • Keep truck assignments accurate
  • Match the right equipment to the payload
  • Make the dispatch screen easier to use
  • Prevent users from selecting trucks that are not a good fit for the job

This is especially helpful when your company manages multiple truck types across projects, regions, or haulers.

When to use a specific truck type

Use a specific truck type when the job requires a certain kind of equipment.

Common examples include:

  • A payload that requires a specific truck capacity
  • A material that should only be hauled by certain trucks
  • A jobsite that can only accept certain truck types
  • A project with equipment restrictions
  • A dispatch where only a subset of your fleet should be available

If any truck type can be used for the job, you may not need to narrow the payload to one specific truck type.

Review before saving the job

Before clicking Save Job, confirm:

  • The correct project is selected
  • The correct payload is selected
  • The truck type is correct
  • The selected truck matches the job requirements
  • The pickup and drop-off sites are correct
  • The job date and start time are correct
  • Driver notes are complete, if needed

This helps prevent dispatch errors before the job is sent.

Troubleshooting

I do not see the truck I want to assign

Check the truck type selected on the payload. If the truck does not match the selected truck type, it may not appear in My Fleet during dispatch.

I selected the wrong truck type on the payload

Edit the payload if your permissions allow it. Update the truck type, save the payload, and then dispatch the job again.

My Fleet is only showing a few trucks

That is expected when a specific truck type is selected on the payload. TruckIT filters My Fleet to show only matching trucks.

I need to assign a different truck type

Update the payload truck type before dispatching. If the job has already been saved, edit the job if your permissions allow it.

I do not see the Truck Types field

Your account may not have permission to create or edit payloads, or the field may not be available in your current workflow. Contact your company administrator or TruckIT Support.
