When to create a custom truck type
Create a custom truck type when your company needs to track equipment that is not already available as a standard option.
Examples may include:
- A specific trailer or truck configuration
- A specialty hauling vehicle
- A company-specific equipment category
- A truck type with a unique capacity
- A truck type your dispatchers commonly use when assigning jobs
Custom truck types make it easier to keep your fleet setup accurate and consistent.
Tips for naming truck types
Use names that are easy for your team to understand.
Good truck type names are:
- Short
- Specific
- Consistent
- Easy to recognize during dispatch
For example, instead of using a vague name like Truck 1, use a more descriptive truck type such as Tri-Axle Dump Truck or End Dump Trailer, depending on how your company identifies equipment.
Why truck capacity matters
Capacity helps your team understand what the truck type can carry.
Adding the correct capacity can support better planning, dispatching, and reporting. It also helps reduce confusion when users are selecting truck types for payloads, jobs, or fleet records.
Before saving a new truck type, double-check that the capacity is accurate.
What happens next?
After the custom truck type is created, your team can use it when setting up or managing trucks in the TruckIT Portal.
You may also need to update existing trucks if they should use the new custom truck type.
Troubleshooting

I entered the wrong capacity
