Copy a Job or Create a Job Template in the TruckIT Portal (Video)
Learn how to copy an existing job for a one-time dispatch or create a job template for recurring work.
Use this article to copy an existing job or create a job template in the TruckIT Web Portal.
Copying a job is useful when you want to quickly repeat a job one time. Creating a job template is useful when the same job needs to run on multiple days.
Before you begin
Make sure the original job has the correct job details, including:
- Pickup site
- Drop-off site
- Payload or material
- Job notes
- Assigned trucks, if applicable
- Start time and schedule details
You should also confirm whether the job needs to run one time or on multiple days.
Choose the right option
Use this quick guide before you begin.
| What you need to do | Use this option |
|---|---|
| Repeat a job one time | Copy the job |
| Run the same job across multiple dates | Create a job template |
| Use the same job details but assign different trucks | Copy the job or create a template, then update the assigned trucks |
| Automatically dispatch the same job on scheduled days | Create a job template |

Review truck assignments before saving
Before saving a copied job or job template, always review the assigned trucks.
This is especially important when:
- The original job had trucks that are no longer available
- You need different trucks for the new date
- You are adding more trucks to support the job
- You are creating a recurring template that will run across multiple days
Keeping truck assignments accurate helps prevent dispatching the wrong trucks or overbooking trucks that are already assigned elsewhere.
When to use job templates
Job templates are best for recurring or repeatable work.
Examples include:
- Daily material deliveries
- Multi-day hauling jobs
- Recurring project work
- Jobs with the same pickup and drop-off sites
- Jobs that use the same material or payload
- Jobs that require the same group of trucks on scheduled days
Templates help reduce manual dispatch work and keep repeat jobs consistent.
Troubleshooting
I copied a job, but the wrong trucks were assigned
Copied jobs may carry over the trucks from the original job. Open the copied job, review the assigned trucks, and update them before saving or dispatching.
I do not see the Template toggle
Your account may not have access to templates, or your user permissions may not allow you to create job templates. Contact your company administrator or TruckIT Support.
The job did not dispatch on the expected day
Review the template schedule. Confirm the start date, end date, selected days of the week, and assigned trucks.
I need to change a recurring job
Open the template, update the schedule, trucks, or job details, and save your changes.
